Custom Lapel Pins › Cloisonne Pins
Custom cloisonne pins from Metro Pins are made with real glass enamel, not the hard enamel that many suppliers pass off as cloisonne. The result is a true jewelry-quality finish with rich, lustrous color that hard enamel cannot match.
Cloisonne pins embody the fine-art tradition of glass enameling started centuries ago.
Custom cloisonne pins are made from hand-pouring powdered glass into the recesses of a die-struck red copper (99.99% pure copper) pin.
Metro Pins makes real, cloisonne pins. Most other companies claim the same, but instead quietly substitute hard enamel pins or epola hard enamel (durable resin) pins.
The pins can be plated in gold, silver, copper, black nickel and other polished platings.
After being baked in a kiln at a very high temperature, the transparent, glass enamel is sanded and polished to
be flush with the metal lines that separate the colors.
The powdered glass used in cloisonne typically melts at temperatures between 1400°F (760°C) and 1650°F (900°C), while copper melts at approximately 1981°F (1083°C). This means that the cloisonne enamel can be fused to the copper without melting the metal itself in a multi-step application process.
This gives the pins a smooth and lustrous look with a jewelry-like finish akin to fine jewelry by Faberge or Hidalgo. Cloisonne pins are most often used for recognition, awards or membership pins. They are not used for things like trading pins.
2.00" and larger pins have two 8mm spur nails on the back, while smaller pins have one.

Custom Cloisonne Pin Questions
Are your cloisonne pins real cloisonne?
Yes. Our custom cloisonne pins use genuine glass enamel. Many suppliers sell hard enamel pins and call them cloisonne. Real cloisonne has a different look, feel, and depth of color that hard enamel does not match.
What is the difference between real cloisonne and hard enamel?
Real cloisonne uses glass enamel that is fired and polished to a smooth, jewelry-like surface. Hard enamel uses a different fill that is ground and polished but does not have the same translucence or color richness as true glass enamel.
When should I choose custom cloisonne pins?
Choose them when you want the highest-end look for recognition, awards, service pins, or collector pieces. Real cloisonne is the premium option when appearance and finish matter most.
Is there a minimum order for custom cloisonne pins?
There is no strict minimum. A single sample is available, so you can order the quantity you need. Volume pricing applies at higher quantities.

Yes. We prepare free digital artwork for every custom cloisonne pin order and will adjust the design as needed for clean glass enamel results.
