Cooperstown Ordering Guide

- Cooperstown Pins
The team-manager playbook

Make a Pin Plan So Kids Will Actually Want to Trade

You're preparing for a full week of Cooperstown baseball, but another competition happens between games: finding the pins everyone is talking about. Here's how to choose your designs, budget the right number and get everything produced before the team hits the road.

Start with trading appeal

Team Logos Are a Staple. Creative Rares Are the Chase.

There's still a place for the team name, ballfield, hometown and jersey colors: a classic pin tells the story of who your players are. But standard baseball-themed pins don't generate the same collector excitement they once did. Among serious traders, the attention often goes to elaborate, surprising limited editions.

Think an animated-looking dessert, an absurdly detailed cheeseburger, a retro toy, a music-inspired character, a candy-world scene or a playful take on something kids recognize from everyday culture. Some highly sought-after Cooperstown rares barely reference baseball at all. That's part of the fun.

Snack-aisle spectacles

Pizza, candy, cereal, sodas and towering desserts give designers a colorful starting point.

Screen, music & culture

Celebrity-inspired energy, internet crazes, music and cultural themes can become inventive original artwork.

Games & toy-box nostalgia

Arcade imagery, toy-like characters, muppets, cartoons, and retro references invite traders to chase your pins.

Big visual surprises

Humor, Brain rot, unexpected combinations, movable pieces and dramatic shapes make people notice.

Our Approach: Make Pins Worth Chasing!

Why settle for ordinary designs when extraordinary doesn't cost anything more? Cooperstown is your team's chance to make a statement with a design that's original, eye-catching, and anything but forgettable. We're not just here to make pins. We're here to help create something your players are excited to trade and other people can't wait to get their hands on. From the first creative spark to the extraordinary finished pins, we make the experience simple, enjoyable, and all about your team.

Get the proportions right

Give Your Design Enough Room to Show Off

We advise going no smaller than 2.0 inches for a Cooperstown pin. Your best size depends on whether you're making a standard team design or a collector's showpiece.

2.0″

A solid baseline

Plenty of room for a bold design, team name, and other minor details.

2.5–3.0″

More design real estate

Useful for imaginative artwork and extra details without going oversized.

3.0–4.0″

Big hot traders

Perfect size for dramatic rare designs, specialty finishes and add-ons.

5.0–6.0″+

Cooperstown showpieces

Oversized & hard to find. Trades are tough and come at a premium.

Soft enamel remains the strong Cooperstown choice. UV printing adds fine detail, gradients and color effects that enamel filling alone may not reproduce. Glitter, spinners, danglers, sliders, glow and special plating can build on a great concept rather than replace it.

Beat the spring rush

Start in the Offseason, Not the Month Before You Leave

Three to four months ahead is a sensible planning target; earlier is better. Spring fills up with tournament orders, and complex rare pins need enough time for revisions and manufacturing. Starting the previous fall or winter gives you more freedom to change your mind.

  1. Fall to early winter: gather player input, choose a theme and request drawings. Ask about any current early-order promotions rather than assuming a discount.
  2. At least three months before departure: confirm artwork, sizes, quantities and the number of people trading. Finalize your quote and required delivery date.
  3. Six weeks before travel: treat this as a serious check-in if you have not ordered. Contact Metro Pins immediately to see what production and shipping schedules are still possible.
  4. After delivery: count everything, reserve keepsakes and divide your supply before the team heads for Cooperstown.
A request for artwork isn't the same as a placed order. Production begins only after the proof is approved and payment is completed; the specific delivery schedule must be confirmed for your order.
Now count every trader

How Many Pins Should a Cooperstown Team Bring?

Find out how many teams are scheduled for your tournament week. The size of that field provides a practical starting point for possible team-to-team trades. It's an estimate of opportunities, not a promise that every team will trade.

We recommend 100 pins per player as a starting minimum. If your week has more than 100 teams, think about increasing that allowance. Then add a separate supply for other people in your group.

Players

Start at 100 each, then factor in avid traders and the number of visiting teams.

Coaches

Some coaches trade often; others only want a few for keepsakes. Ask first.

Siblings & family

Give young siblings and interested parents their own allocations rather than dipping into the players' stacks.

Team reserve

Hold some back for losses, last-day trades and keepsakes that should never be swapped away.

Calculate Your Group's Trading-Pin Order

Try your numbers below. The player allotment starts at the greater of 100 or the expected team count, and you can increase it for collectors who expect to trade more.

Starting with 100 pins per player.

Suggested order quantity1,300Rounded up to the nearest 25 for planning

1,100 player + 80 coach + 118 reserve = 1,298 before rounding.

This calculator isn't a live tournament team-count lookup or an official minimum. Final order increments, pricing and dates are determined by your quote.

Spend where it matters

One Big Order, Two Different Jobs

Your everyday pin needs to be available in quantity, but more importantly the design should be creative. If you don't want to lug home half of your pins after the tournament, GONE are the days of boring "ballfield / logo / crossed-bats / player-numbers" pins. A limited-edition design has a different purpose: giving traders something harder to find. You can create a rare variant by changing the main mold's plating, or commission a separate statement design when the budget allows.

Don't spend every dollar on costly attachments and leave players without enough inventory or size. Give the main design a strong, cool design, then let your rare pin sing a song of creativity. Even a pin with almost no baseball imagery can become the one that everyone tries to track down.

One extra idea: Sibling pins don't have to look like the team pin. A silly, colorful sibling edition can be a fun trading item of its own.
Quick answers

Cooperstown Ordering Questions

How many pins should we get if 100 teams are attending?

One working estimate is 100 per player, plus separate quantities for coaches, siblings, adults and a reserve. Some players will trade more and others less, so use the calculator to adjust for your group.

Are old-fashioned team pins still worth making?

Yes, especially for identity and keepsakes, but plain team-logo designs generally draw less attention from traders than creative, limited-run pins. A two-design strategy lets you serve both purposes.

Does our rare pin need a baseball theme?

Not at all. Food, candy, toys, music, cultural trends and other unexpected ideas can inspire highly desirable collector pins. If you reference a real person, famous character or brand, use original or properly authorized artwork.

Can UV printing be included on a soft-enamel pin?

Metro Pins' Cooperstown soft-enamel offering includes UV printing for fine detail and full-color effects. Check your specific design proof and quote for included features and any optional upgrades.

Do we need separate tooling for a plated rare?

Not always. A gold- or rainbow-plated variant of the regular design may use the same mold. A completely different oversized rare design is a separate production decision and may cost more.

When is the best time to begin?

Fall or winter gives you more flexibility, and at least three months ahead is a useful target. Six weeks out is not a guaranteed deadline: ask Metro Pins whether your artwork and shipping date remain feasible.

Does requesting a drawing place an order?

No. Metro Pins prepares artwork and a quote first. Production starts after you approve the proof and pay for the order.

Should younger siblings receive their own design?

They can! Sibling pins may use a fun character or theme without the team name, or siblings can receive a separate share of the main pins.
