Custom UV Printed Pins - Full Color Die Struck

Custom UV print pins

Custom UV printed pins from Metro Pins put full-color, photo-level artwork directly onto die struck metal.  The pin is stamped first so raised and recessed detail is already in the metal, then UV ink is printed onto that surface and cured instantly with ultraviolet light.

Gradients, soft transitions, fine illustration, and complex color all come through clean - details that traditional enamel often cannot separate.

What is UV printing?  UV printing is a digital inkjet process.  Ink is applied directly to the metal and cured on contact with UV light, so colors stay sharp and the surface can be finished with a thin clear coat for protection.

Unlike offset printing on flatter pins, UV printing can follow raised and recessed areas on die struck and die cast pins.  The finished piece stays metal - not plastic - and keeps the look, weight, and dimensional feel of a quality lapel pin.

These full color die struck pins are a strong fit when your artwork has more than a few solid colors, includes shading or photographs, or needs brand colors matched more closely than enamel allows.  Exposed metal can still be plated gold, silver, black nickel, or other finishes, and that metal shows through any clear or unprinted areas so the base finish becomes part of the design.

Custom UV Print Pins Benefits

  • Full-color artwork on dimensional die struck metal
  • Handles photos, gradients, and complex logos
  • Artwork with more detail than enamel can separate cleanly
  • Accomodates raised and recessed metal detail
  • Plating options still available on exposed metal - view plating options

When Custom UV Printed Pins Are the Right Choice

  • Gradients, shadows, or soft color transitions that enamel cannot render
  • Designs with more than a few solid colors, or true photographic detail
  • Artwork that needs closer brand-color matching than enamel allows
  • Designs that need full color on a raised and recessed metal pin
  • Projects that want both full color and a solid metal feel
When Enamel May Still Be Better
  • Very simple two or three color designs - enamel often looks more polished and costs less
  • Artwork depends heavily on sharp, raised tactile metal lines as part of the design

Custom UV Printed Pin Questions

What are custom UV printed pins?

Custom UV printed pins are die struck metal pins with full-color artwork printed directly onto the surface and cured with ultraviolet light. The pin keeps raised and recessed metal detail while adding photos, gradients, and complex color that enamel cannot always handle.

How is UV printing different from offset printing?

Offset printing is typically used on flatter pin surfaces. UV printing uses inkjet ink cured instantly with UV light and can be applied to die struck and die cast pins that already have raised and recessed features, so the finished pin can show both full color and dimensional metal texture.

What are full color die struck pins?

Full color die struck pins are die struck metal bases finished with UV printing. You get the solid metal structure of a die struck pin plus full-color artwork instead of a pure metal-only finish.

When should I choose UV printed pins over enamel?

Choose custom UV printed pins when the artwork includes gradients, soft shading, photographs, or more colors than enamel can separate cleanly. Simple two- or three-color designs usually look better and cost less in enamel. If enamel is the stronger fit for your design, we will say so.

Can UV be combined with enamel on the same pin?

Yes. Hybrid designs can use enamel for raised frames, borders, or logo accents and UV printing for the detailed interior. Send your artwork and we can quote both approaches if you want to compare.

Will the print fade over time?

A clear protective coat helps resist fade and surface wear. With normal use, UV printed pins hold color for years. Heavy abrasion or constant outdoor exposure can eventually wear any printed finish.

What artwork works best for UV printing?

High-resolution raster files (300 DPI or better at print size) or vector files with embedded images both work. CMYK is ideal; RGB can be converted with careful proofing. We provide free artwork assistance and a digital proof before production.

Is there a minimum order for custom UV printed pins?

There is no strict minimum. A single sample is available, so you can order the quantity you need. Volume pricing applies at higher quantities.

How long does production usually take?

Standard production and shipping is typically within 30 calendar days. Rush production with 15-calendar-day delivery is available for an additional charge.
